Project name: BABYLON 

 

INTRODUCTION

Babylon are children and youth' centers in 8 towns of Macedonian. They were born in June 1999, as an idea from an Italian NGO founded by ECHO. During one year and a half many activities have been developed, more and more children and youth have joined the center, the parents have been involved, Local Authorities were awarded about the benefits of the centers, helping them to become more sustainable and autonomous. Let's say that Babylon has gowned up. Now Unicef / W.B want to support the centers and to continue the growing up, improving them and expand them, giving the opportunity to participate to children and youths from all the municipalities in Macedonia.

 

 

AIM  OF  THE  PROJECT

Education, socialization, motivation of creativity and initiative, ethnic and religious tolerance.

 

TARGET  GROUP  

Children at the age of 7-14 and 14-18; members of various ethnic and religious groups and poor families. According to the nature of the region Macedonians, Turks, Roms and Serbs with their religious affiliation will be embraced.

A C T I V I T I E S

 

E N G L I S H

 

The activities that will be included in this program will be in coordination with the other activities in the project. The aim of all activities will be to help children cope with everyday problems of socialization through all kinds of games and activities.

The project includes children from 7-18 years old so the program will be made according their age, interests and level of knowledge.

The program will contain terminology from several areas like religion (notions connected with the two major religions in Christianity and Islam), sport (notions connected with some sport games like basketball, football, etc), music (concerning music instruments, theory of music), literature (notions from literature like kinds of the literature), ecology (protection of environment, recycling, etc) and various topics that will arise during the process of teaching.

Psychological moments

 

-         Acceptance of all the children like our children, children of all of us, children who we believe in, children in which we see our future

-         Making friends - basic factor of realization of the project

-         Method of conversation - basic factor of getting to know each other

-         Approach and getting closer to the child

-         Procedure and way of finding of a most suitable approach to enable relationship with the individual

-         Warmth, closeness, sincerity

-         Way of communication

 

 

Basic of work (purpose)

 

-         Socialization through games, education, motivation of creativity, initiative, ethnic and confessional tolerance, respect of personality as a main factor in society

-         Socialization of individuals in the environment in which they live, but making influence over the environment itself positively.

 

 

Game and social relationships

 

-         Psychologically sane child and his need of game and his ability to learn, with a wish to recognize

-         In a new environment, new friends, visiting various cultural monuments and events, sports, music

-         Game as a factor of creativity among children, their mental and intellectual development

-         Shaping of personality

 

 

C R E A T I V I T Y

 

 

In accordance with the program of the "Babylon" project, the branch creativity is going to include activities connected to increasing creativity, self-initiative, respecting friends and different cultures, ethnical groups and religions, by means of drama, drawing, recitals, music, sport, ecology, creative games.

            Some of these activities may be realized by

-         quizzes

-         listening and producing music characteristic of every ethnic group

-         introducing traditional clothes and musical instruments

-         sightseeing of cultural and historic monuments

-         organizing literature competitions

-         puppet shows

-         masked balls

-         oratory

-         making common newspaper

-         reading and creating stories

-         learning about and protecting the environment

-         exhibitions of hand-made objects

 

All this will be coordinated with the other activities from the project. 

 

 

 

 

 

C O M P U T E R   S C I E N C E

 

A lot of programs included in the project will be supported with information from Internet. The children will use Internet for communication with other children from various countries and races. We are going to start discussion of Internet structure, protocols and access.

The children are going to learn writing words and sentences in English, or writing messages and letters. We are going to use CD-s for better knowledge about our country, our culture and other things: Music, Art, Science etc.

Also, we are going to play some logical games, depending on the age of the children for developing concentration, logic, self-confidence and self-criticism.

EFFECTS  OF  THE  PROJECT

 

Educated individuals that will be included in the society without any prejudice; able to apply the latest achievements in computer technology; ready to accept the already existing ways of living side by side and to accept new ones, using the English language, as basis of international communication.
